Kirstie Battson

Kirstie Battson is a recent graduate from Bath School of Art & Design, where she studied Graphic Communication and specialised in illustration. She has just turned 23 and is based in Oxford. Kirstie has always loved drawing and was influenced by comics and cartoons when she was a child. She has only realised that she should seriously pursue her creativity when she was 18. Since then Kirstie been keen to perfect her style and make something of herself and her work, hoping to illustrate things that she loves and contributes towards worthwhile projects and initiatives.”

Kirstie is taking part in the ?!X book ‘Creating The Future’ and has illustrated David de Rothschild‘s future, one “where today we all dare to dream bigger, undertake greater adventures, tell richer stories and strive to be more curious there by collectively solving the issues that we know the future will hold.” We can’t wait to share it with you!

?!X: What’s the Future You Choose?

KB: The future I choose is one where people finally set aside their differences and value being kind to others instead of living lives ruled by purely selfish motives. It would be a happier and safer world where people would work hard for themselves but also others, striving to be fair and just in all their endeavors and seeking out ways, however small, to make a difference.

?!X: What’s a ‘think’ to create this future?

KB: I have always been fond of this particular quote from John Steinbeck’s A Winter of Discomfort: “No man really knows about other human beings. The best he can do is to suppose that they are like himself.” It is true that we must hope that others would act the same as us in terms of kindness and consideration, yet unfortunately this is not always the case. It would be great if we could have more confidence in our fellow man and if there was more trust and compassion in our society. This is something I hope we can work towards.

?!X: What’s an ‘act’ to create the future you choose?

KB: I think that people should take time out to be more considerate, be it through giving, sharing, or just taking the time to listen more. Even small gestures are valued, be it hand-making the presents you give your friends and family to show them just how important they are, or seeking out ways in which you could help other people directly

?!X: What’s a ‘vote’ to create the future you choose?

KB: Worthwhile initiatives like Innocent’s The Big Knit are great ways that people can contribute towards something worthwhile while having fun.  eBay’s charity initiative is also fantastic.

?!X: Future Soundtrack – What song would you take with you into the future?

KB: Bowl of Oranges by Bright Eyes

?!X: Can you share with us up to 5 weblinks that you find interesting and inspiring?
