“Every time I go really deep with anyone, I discover a latent beauty, heroism, saintliness, and greatness that is wishing it could express itself.” ~ Terry Patten
E75 – TERRY PATTEN ON SACRED ACTIVISM, TRANSFORMATION AND META NARRATIVES // A NEW REPUBLIC OF THE HEART: AWAKENING TO THE MYSTERY AND THE MIRACLE
Listen to the conversation:
About this interview:
How can we be the change that we want to see in the world?
In this episode Amisha sits down with philosopher, author, activist and coach Terry Patten.
Terry speaks about how to become present to each other in the moment with kindness, compassion, generosity and community. He explains why now – more than ever – to be completely open to the emergent qualities of every individual and relationship can lead us to a new way of navigating our present crises.
Terry shares his perspective on inner work as a form of activism, and as a prerequisite for holistic change. He talks about the rapid evolutionary transformation happening now and how we can create wholeness in the face of fragmentation in order to weave together the elements of a new paradigm for humanity.
Together Amisha and Terry talk about the challenges and distractions that can block our access to the aliveness of each moment, and how we can move through these blockages to reconnect with ourselves, each other and the present moment. They discuss trauma and identity politics; speaking about the burdens of pain and shame that are carried and passed along generational lines, and how we can work with each other to heal and redeem them.
Finally they examine the multiple meta-narratives playing out alongside each other – the great global movements of our time such as Extinction Rebellion and the techno-utopians – and speak about how we might usefully show up within and create a bridge between them.
“It’s ok that we are always learning, that we screw up. We have to have a lot of self compassion. Nobody is right all the time. I’ve been on the path for a really long time, and if I don’t stay willing to be like an innocent child discovering everything for the first time, then something numbs out, something deadens, and I’m not true to the divine spirit that is really trying to find its way into the world through me.” ~ Terry Patten
